PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYTICS EXPERT JOINS MTI INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES
MTI welcomes Dr. Levi A. Sorrell as new chief statistician
LANGHORNE, PA (June 6, 2006) - MTI Information Technologies, a leading provider of tailored, data-driven pharmaceutical marketing services, announced today that Levi A. Sorrell has joined its product development team as chief statistician. Dr. Sorrell comes to MTI with more than 25 years of experience in analytics, outcomes measurement, clinical data management and research and development.
Dr. Sorrell's primary responsibility at MTI will be to lead its advanced analytics team in the ongoing construction and validation of the company's unique physician and patient behavior models and to identify enhancements to existing models used to drive MTI's direct-to-physician marketing products. Additionally, his team will develop sampling methodologies, investigate data enhancements, conduct data analysis and evaluate advanced statistical techniques for the purpose of maintaining and improving MTI's unique forecasting models that predict behavior in prescribing physicians.
"The traditional pharmaceutical sales approach is quickly becoming obsolete as more and more physicians restrict in-person detailing. As a result, alternative ways of reaching a physician with customized messaging and a proven ROI are quickly becoming a more attractive option for pharmaceutical executives. MTI has become the leading company in this area," explained William Clapper, MTI's president and CEO. "Our entire business model is focused on the analysis of data to identify the best ways to go about communicating with each physician. We are able to deliver individually unique messages, based on what the physician deems important when treating a particular ailment, through his or her preferred contact channel," Mr. Clapper continued. "This is what makes Dr. Sorrell's addition so essential to MTI. His extensive experience will continue to ensure that our current and future predictive models are sensitive to the rapidly changing pharmaceutical marketplace and that our database of physician behaviors and individual preferences is constantly expanded."
Dr. Sorrell most recently served as account vice president for advanced analytics at NDCHealth/Wolters Kluwer Health Analytics. In this role, he managed a staff of researchers to provide outcomes research and advanced analytics projects to pharmaceutical clients. This experience will be especially valuable, given MTI's recent signing of a multi-year contract with Wolters Kluwer Health's Pharma Solutions Business Unit for patient longitudinal, weekly retail prescribing and managed care data.
Prior to his tenure with NDCHealth/Wolters Kluwer, Dr. Sorrell was director of information products and services and director of advanced analytics for Janssen Pharmaceutica, where he led the development of various systems and forecasting models. His experience also includes time as director of outcomes measurement and clinical data management for Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Systems Inc., vice president of information services and chief information officer for UnitedHealthcare's HealthPro subsidiary and executive director of research and development for Baxter's Health Data Institute. His career is further complemented with an independent entrepreneurial endeavor and academic instruction tenure at Columbia University.
Dr. Sorrell holds Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science in management and Bachelor of Science degrees, all from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
